Bengali is the language of Bangladesh and Indian States of West Bengal, Tripura and Southern Assam. With about 250 million total speakers, Bengali is one of the most spoken languages, ranked seventh in the world. Bengali literature spans over one thousand years and reached its pinnacle in 1913 when Rabindranath Tagore won Nobel Prize for literature.

Individualized study of a South Asian language; emphasis on written expression, reading comprehension and oral fluency. Languages currently offered are Bahasa Indonesia, Bengali, and Burmese though, with enough lead time, others may be approved upon petition to the Director of Undergraduate Studies/Director of Graduate Studies.
