Speaker Bio 

P. Sivakami is a prolific writer and a political activist. She holds a doctoral degree in History/ Economics. She served for 28 years in the Indian Administrative Service and took voluntary retirement to join politics.

Sivakami has written six novels in Tamil and one in English, four short story collections, two poetry collections and several non fiction works, which are placed under the category of Dalit writing. Her book Grip of Change was the first novel authored by a Dalit woman in Tamil. Her primary concerns are land rights for landless agricultural labourers, political empowerment of women and Dalits, and human rights advocacy for tribes and transgender communities.
